We interviewed Prof. Georges to learn more about her experience at VIU in the Globalization Program.

“I think teaching to an international audience has been one of the things I liked most about teaching in VIU. There are many dimensions that I think quite exceptional and have been fascinating. One thing that I have enjoyed that has been unique is the international composition of the classroom. I have been able to draw upon students experiences, to promote discussion, we do comparative discussions about what is it like in your country and students can bring their own experience to the topics we are studying. Food is a natural, but also gender is too. So it is something that flows in the classroom.”

“It has been wonderful. It is always a challenge to move to a new city and discover basic things. Venice is a unique place and it has been a lot of fun learning how to do things here. I am learning too. In general it has been great.”

“Getting to know the students individually is the dearest part of my time at VIU. It is wonderful that the classroom size is as small as it is, because it provides a lot of opportunities to know the students very well. Because of that I get comfortable bringing them in into the conversation and students really appreciate that. ”

“The faculty who come here to teach are from different contexts as well, and it has been very rewarding to get to know them. One thing that I enjoyed very much is the co-curricular, which are opportunities to get out of the classroom and professors typically organize some kind of educational experience outside of the classroom for their class and faculty come along too. There are so many dimensions that makes it quite special. For me it has also been an opportunity for personal and educational growth.”
