Venice, 26 August 2026 – Venice International University (VIU) and San Servolo Srl, both based on the island of San Servolo  join in mourning the passing of Fabrizio Plessi, one of the foremost interpreters and pioneers of contemporary international art.

At the entrance to the island’s main building, visitors and students from around the world are welcomed by The Four Evangelists, a majestic site-specific installation conceived by the artist especially for this space. The work forms part of the “Sculpture Park” created by Venice International University on the island. It represents a perfect synthesis of his distinctive artistic language: an extraordinary dialogue that draws on and pays homage to the codes of the Byzantine mosaic tradition, reinterpreting them through the modernity of television screens and electronic flow.

Plessi succeeded in taking art towards new frontiers, masterfully blending primordial elements such as water and fire with digital technologies. His connection with the island of San Servolo remains indelibly etched in the history of this cultural hub in the Venetian Lagoon.

With his passing, the world of culture has lost a visionary, but his artistic legacy will continue to live on and inspire all those who cross the threshold of San Servolo.

The two institutions extend their sincere condolences to the Maestro’s family and loved ones.
