Regulations regarding compulsory attendance at VIU and special arrangements, as also available in the Program Regulations section.
Attendance policy and absences
Attendance is compulsory in all courses in the Globalization Program. Auditors are not admitted. The attendance policy also applies to site visits and field trips, which may be scheduled on Fridays.
Students who miss more than 15% may not be admitted to the final exam.
All absences will affect the grade in a course.
Students are advised to inform the professor and the GP Office in advance, by email, if they are unable to attend class(es). Students are advised to cover work missed and to demonstrate that they have done so to the professor.
Justified absences require:
- a doctor's certificate in the event of illness
- a certificate from university department in the case of exams in home university
- the immigration office receipt in case of appointment for the request and/or pick up of the residency permit.
Absences may be "justified" only when documented.
Certificates must be handed in to the GP office (or sent via email to student-services@univiu.org) and they are dealt with in complete confidentiality.
Absences due to travel arrangements during the semester will under no circumstances be considered "justified". There is a mid-term break to allow and encourage students to travel.
Special arrangements
Special arrangements with your professor(s) regarding any aspect of your attendance, assessment or completion of your course(s) must be approved in writing by the Director, Luca Pes (luca.pes@univiu.org). It is the responsibility of the student to obtain such approval.
