Registrations for courses for the 1st Semester of AY 2020-21 (Fall 2020) of the Gobalization Program will open on July 28, at 3 pm Italian time.
Update on the semester
Following the VIU Academic Council meeting which was held last at the end of June, it has been decided that the Fall 2020 semester will be held in a blended format, partially on-line and partially in person.
The Academic Activities will start on September 7 and continue until September 27 in remote. This means that the orientation week and the first two weeks of classes will be held on-line.
If the situation in Italy remains as it is now (very few infections) the on-campus activities will start on Monday September 28 and regularly continue until December 18. However, if at any time the situation in the country or in the region gets worse and local authorities decide again for a lockdown, we will have to move all the courses on-line.
The full academic calendar is available at this link.
Courses and students
Considering the uncertain situation regarding Covid-19 and the different stages that the countries represented in VIU activities are going through, VIU decided to allow maximum flexibility to students and Professors willing to participate in the semester but unable to come to Venice at the end of September due to governmental travel restrictions or health issues.
For this reason, some of the courses might be taught entirely remotely. At present only Prof. Stockwell (Waseda University) has announced his intention to teach entirely online, except for the last couple of weeks when he hopes to be able to give some seminars in person at VIU.
Safety and emergency management
Safety protocols and emergency planning are being prepared with the support of our usual Health and Safety consultants, and will be published on our website.
The protocols will provide for safe access to VIU including the classrooms and offices.
Contingency planning is underway for various scenarios including a second wave in Italy or a case of Covid-19 within the VIU community (students, professors or staff).
All students registered in degree programs at one of VIU's Member Universities are eligible to apply for the Globalization Program, and must pre-register via the VIU website after having submitted their application to the study abroad office of their home universities.
