The prestigious University of Ljubljana officially became a Member of the Venice International University consortium on November 10, 2018.

The Rector, Prof. Igor Papič, was warmly welcomed by the President of VIU, Ambassador Umberto Vattani, by the Dean, Professor Carlo Giupponi, and all the other Members of the VIU Assembly and Board of Directors.
The meetings were held in Bordeaux, at the sumptuous Law Faculty of the University. This was the first time the meetings of the VIU Governing Bodies were held outside Italy, following the courteous invitation by the President of Bordeaux University, Professor Manuel Tunon de Lara.

Founded in 1919 on the basis of centuries of educational tradition, the University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia.
The University is listed among the top 500 universities in the world according to the ARWU Shanghai, Times THES-QS and Webometrics rankings and is renowned for its high academic quality, particularly in social and natural sciences.
