During the ongoing and evolving COVID-19 epidemic in Italy and worldwide, at VIU we have introduced specific measures and protocols to address the emergency, and we continue to follow the advice of the health authorities and respect the decrees of the Italian Government. VIU staff is fully operational, albeit in smart-working.

VIU will confirm whether each Summer School will take place one month before the start date.

In the event that a program has to be cancelled, the participants will receive a full refund.

VIU is also exploring opportunities to run the programs as virtual summer schools using e-learning technologies and methodologies, which we have successfully implemented for the spring courses.

If the scientific coordinators decide to run the program as a virtual summer school, the participants will pay a reduced fee, and will be given the opportunity to withdraw their application.

During the Summer Term, VIU organizes and hosts a series of summer schools in cooperation with the member institutions. These intensive taught programs focus on specific themes which are of common interest to the members involved and which have been identified as strategic for the VIU consortium, for example: sustainable development, preservation of cultural heritage, and the challenges that society faces today due to ageing populations.

World-renowned academics come together in the unique setting of VIU’s campus on the island of San Servolo, where they engage with students of various levels.

The goal of these interdisciplinary summer schools is to disseminate knowledge among students (undergrad, master’s, PhD, post-doc) and young academics, and to establish and reinforce research networks among the VIU community.

The Schools are also open to applicants outside of the VIU membership.
