The Assembly of Members has named Prof. Carmelo Marabello as Dean of Venice International University. Marabello is Professor of Film and Media Studies at Università Iuav di Venezia where he teaches Cinema and Contemporary Arts, Media Theory, Anthropology of Images, Globalization and Media, and Film, Landscape and Architecture.

Bachelor and Master's students in the member universities can now apply for summer courses during the 2022 Summer Session, August 1-26. This is the first edition of Summer Sessions that VIU is introducing this year with the aim of extending the opportunities to study and teach at VIU. Through this opportunity, VIU will also serve the needs of students who otherwise face barriers to participation during the semester-long programs. Deadline to apply: May 15, 2022

The Italian National Erasmus+ Agency INDIRE has accredited VIU as coordinator of an Erasmus+ Mobility Consortium that includes the Italian member universities. Students attending VIU programs from countries participating in the Erasmus+ program can receive travel and individual support grants when participating in VIU academic programs.

This is the sixth edition of the simulation of the EU legislative procedure in which students adopt the roles of MEPs and Commissioners and practice their negotiating and public speaking skills. This year the students will debate the Artificial Intelligence Act and the Social Climate Fund. The VeUMEU is part of the City of Venice's Europe Day celebrations "Towards a Sustainable Europe" which will continue throughout the month of May.

Environmental law, while achieving many discrete successes, seems unable to address at root the key drivers of environmental degradation. Recognizing legal subjectivity to natural entities is presented thus as a paradigm shift that, reimagining the relationship between humans and nature, will ensure nature is no longer treated, in law, as an object of exploitation, but as a living domain worthy of protection in light of its intrinsic value.
