Lecture 1: The Globalization Debate Introduction to the course and presentation of the current debate about globalization. Globalization and Economic Competitivenes: What Does It Take to Succeed in Global Business? Managing in globalization: towards the global company.
Lecture 2: Product Fragmentation: The New Geography Of Value. An introduction to the changing global economy: an overview of the determinants of international market integration. The new geography of production: the “rise of the others”. Contemporary Issues: Offshore Production and the Outsourcing of Jobs.
Discussion of the assigned readings.
Week 2

Lecture 1: Analyzing and understanding value chains.. An introduction to the Value Chain approach: origin, governance issues, current developments.
Lecture 2: The Global Value Chains Approach. An analysis of the re-definition of value chains on the global scale with a particular focus on the role of emerging economies such as China, India, East European countries. GVC and the restructuring of traditional industries. How Wal-Mart Shapes Global Industries.
Discussion of the assigned readings.
Week 3
