Course on Local Sustainability and Action
The Course on Local Sustainability and Action was organised by Venice International University (VIU) in collaboration with Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), Agroinnova and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. This Course took place at the Venice International University from November 2 to 9, 2008 as the evolution of the previous Course for Sustainability: Strategies, Methodologies, Policies and Actions for Central and Eastern Europe which had been carried out until 2007.
The 35 participants came from several different countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and the new EU member states Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Moreover; a few participants from Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) were also included.
The agenda of the Course was structured with the aim of underlining best practices and concrete case studies, so that the practical aspects of Sustainability could be discussed among lecturers, experts and participants. After a common session of two days, thematic sessions followed. These faced three important themes such as: Sustainable City, Climate and Energy in a Sustainable City, and Enforcement and Assessments for Sustainability.
On the closing day a high level panel discussion and a role playing game were scheduled with the aim to involve participants in an active way and to promote their future commitment on sustainable development.
