On February 14, the semester kicked off with the arrival of 120 students to San Servolo for the Globalization Program. Students from Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Slovenia, Russia, Israel, USA and Japan are taking courses in a range of themes related to Italy, Global Challenges, Environmental Management and Sustainable Development, Cities and Global Change and Environmental Humanities.

The partners of the SMACH project conclude that cultural heritage isn’t only preserved by improving and expanding knowledge of available technologies and the historical-archaeological research, but also by raising awareness and engaging citizens in the process, with the ultimate goal of adopting a holistic approach to cultural heritage management.

This project was very successful, and sparked a much needed conversation on the issues linked to climate change and cultural heritage preservation, and consolidated the network of collaboration between Italy and Balkan countries.

There are still some open calls in the rich VIU offer of Intensive Graduate Activities in 2022. Explore here the upcoming deadlines for applications.

This semester’s plenary workshop took place on Friday November 19, 2021 with a focus on the theme of Venice. On March 25th earlier this year, the city celebrated its 1600th anniversary (421-2021). Thus, the chief goal of the workshop was to celebrate, represent and discuss its history and culture.

On February 2, 2022,  the SPROUT project with INDIMO, will hold a joint webinar entitled: "Planning for a more inclusive urban mobility, addressing urban mobility transition by making use of inclusive digital mobility tools".

The webinar will bring both projects together to share their research results and explore synergies and possibilities on how the SPROUT pilot cities can make use of the INDIMO tools. The webinar will discuss the pilot use cases of Emilia-Romagna (INDIMO) and Valencia (SPROUT), both based on the installation of e-lockers, and see how they can benefit from each other by analyzing the key stakeholders involved, challenges, barriers, drivers, benefits, differences, and commonalities.

The final conference of the ICARUS project on December 7, 2021, from 10.00 to 13.00, is available to the public (registration required) in streaming.
