The VIULectures series brings together students, professors, and the wider public to explore ideas and topics that spark dialogue, invite fresh perspectives, and create connections across disciplines and communities, centered on topics of shared interest.
On Wednesday, April 29, there will be a screening of the documentary "Lagunaria" followed by a Q&A session with the Director Giovanni Pellegrini.
On Monday, May 18, in collaboration with the City of Venice, VIU will host a Caffè d'Europa on International Organisations and the Protection of Democratic Values. Among the speakers are Randall Lesaffer and Gretchen Walters of VIU, and Luiza Bialasiewicz of Ca' Foscari.

Residency for Translators | Call for Application |

This is a new opportunity for established translators to spend a 4-week residency at VIU during the summer of 2026 (July 26-August 23). The initiative is supported by VIU and the Centro per il libro e la lettura to disseminate Italian fiction and non-fiction in translation into other languages, including: German, English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic.

Hidden Venice | Historical Urban Walking Trails |

Hidden Venice is an immersive smartphone app with walking trails that bring early modern Venice to life through storytelling and historical research. Co-developed by Fabrizio Nevola (University of Exeter, VIU Spring 2026), the app guides users through three richly imagined itineraries set in 1572, 1639, and 1730, blending fictional narrators with scholarly context. Each trail reveals the city’s social worlds, from migrant communities to artisans and Carnival culture, offering a dynamic public history experience. A new student-developed trail is currently in progress, expanding this innovative digital project.
