Italian for Foreigners: course description

A. Beginner level

This is the first course for beginner students who wish to understand and speak Italian. The material will include basic vocabulary, grammar and expressions that are used in daily situations. The course is structured in order to practice the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.


Course objectives:

the course aims to develop:

-a mastery of grammar basics

-listening and reading comprehension

-an ability to communicate in Italian, both orally and in writing

-an increased knowledge of Italian society and culture

Italian for Foreigners is a 50 hour course. In the first half of the semester the classes meet four times a week. The course is intensive at the beginning so that students learn some Italian early enough to be able to use it in Venice. After the mid-term break the classes meet twice a week for four weeks, leaving time for self-study and practice in real-life situations.




B. Intermediate level

This language course is designed so that students can practice their grammar skills and increase their ability to understand, speak, read and write Italian, while emphasizing the development of reading comprehension. It includes grammar review and an introduction to new grammar skills, with continued vocabulary study, conversational practice, short composition, cultural and literary readings and some work with video.

-the student’s ability to read and write Italian

-listening comprehension

-the ability to communicated in Italian

-the knowledge of Italian society and culture

Tutoring

Students can ask their teacher for any extra materials they may need to further personalize their program, or to review grammar skills
