Evaluation of student performance is based on participation in class discussion, research presentations, and two types of writing assignments:
1. three critical-analytical book reviews of the memoirs used in each section, 1500 words in length for each paper;
2. a final research paper, 4-5000 words in length. This paper should take advantage of local sources and focus on issues relevant to contemporary Italy and Europe: the rise of neo-Fascism, collective memory of Italian fascism, or the challenges related to integrating Muslim communities. Students will begin this paper early in the semester and present their findings in the last two weeks of class.
