The Semester Program
At VIU, students will find a blend of cross-disciplinary and disciplinary courses, many of which on contemporary issues or adopting new approaches, comparing or studying cultures, dealing with issues on which VIU has Research Centers, such as Environmental Sustainability and Technological innovation, and including courses on Venetian Art and Architecture, History of Ancient and Modern Venice, Italian Contemporary History and Culture and Italian for Foreigners.
A rich variety of extra-curricular activities further enhances the educational mission of the program, through creativity workshops, cross-cultural games, social events, lectures, movie screening, on-site visits, public lectures and debates.
The international Faculty and Student Body provide daily opportunity of cross-cultural dialogue and friendship, in a multilingual community.
Venice, as the location of the program offers the opportunity to live temporarily not only in a world heritage city, with a great concentration of arts and architecture, but also in a unique setting on water, which represents an alternative urban and social concept. The city offers the possibility of experiencing the challenges of environmental and economic sustainability and the effects of global traveling, also providing resources for various kinds of courses (esp. environmental and urban management, ancient and contemporary arts, cinema, music, industrial districts, culture as a factor of urban development).
Venice, having been a great merchant city and a political model, a capital of Humanism and a literary myth, is the perfect site for our program.
The Program is an opportunity for International Exchange students at the Venetian Universities, providing them with a rich set of courses in English. For Venetian full-time students it represents a unique “Erasmus at Home”.
The School also promotes joint seminars, organized by at least two Member institutions, and offers tuition for independent study or research and, in particular, guidance and co-supervision of theses to be submitted in one of the Member Universities in the field of Humanities and/or Social Science.
