Compulsory Attendance Policy and Procedures

Document Actions
Attendance is compulsory in all courses in the semester program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

All courses have a participation and attendance component, so by logic all absences will affect the grade for that part of the overall grade. There is no "allowed" number of absences.

The attendance policy also applies to site visits and field trips, which may be scheduled on Fridays.

Cancelled classes and those that fall on Italian national holidays must be rescheduled in order to guarantee the minimum number of contact hours required fo the credit recognition procedures in the member universities. These classes may be rescheduled on Fridays.

Absences may be "justified" only when documented. Justified absences require a doctor's certificate in the event of illness or a certificate from university department in the case of exams in home university. Certificates must be handed in to the Academic Supervisor and they are dealt with in complete confidentiality.

There is a mid-term break to allow and encourage students to travel. Absences due to travel arrangements during the semester will under no circumstances be considered "justified".

Students who have missed classes will receive notification by email from the Academic Supervisor.
Students who accumulate absences will be invited by the Assistant Dean to explain their inconsistent attendance.
Students with too many unjustified absences may be excluded from the final exam, and thus may receive no credit for that course.
Students are advised to inform the professor and the Academic Supervisor in advance, by email, if they are unable to attend class(es).
Students are advised to cover work missed and to demonstrate that they have done so to the professor.
