30% two exams*
50% three quizzes and three written essays
20% class participation, including comments posted to the Discussion Board on Blackboard.

*one before October 27 and one during the Exam Week

If a student is absent for more than two class meetings, a written medical excuse for each subsequent absence is required. For each class, two students will collaborate on close readings of a document and a painting, so they will lead the class discussion on the topic of the day.
