Venice in the Literary Imagination: readings

Document Actions
Gaye Rowley, Waseda University
 The works read and discussed will be chosen from the following:

Daphne du Maurier, Don’t Look Now (1971);
Henry James, The Aspern Papers (1888);
Thomas Mann, Death in Venice (1912);
Ian McEwan, The Comfort of Strangers (1981);
Ezra Pound, The Cantos (1925-71), sections

and some contemporary detective fiction, such Michael Dibdin’s Dead Lagoon (1995) and Donna Leon’s Death at La Fenice (1992) and/or Acqua Alta (1996).

 If timetabling constraints (and the weather!) permit, some class periods will be devoted to literary walks around Venice.
