VIU-CASS Waste Management Training Course |
|
The notion of proper waste management has greatly changed over time, and nowadays includes aspects such as material and energy recovery, health protection measures and requires a growing cooperation with citizens. After being for a long time something to simply get rid of, waste is now increasingly seen as a resource and laws at European and national level have been designed to reach such a goal. The course on Waste Management, organized by VIU in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and held in Italy from February 18 to March 3, 2012, aims to offer the participants the widest possible overview of best practices in the field. Few lectures will be held in class, in order to present the general framework of the waste management policy in Europe and Italy, while most of the course will be devoted to site visits. This will let the participants to get to know some successful Italian examples such as a landfill site, an hazardous waste incineration plant, integrated treatment plants for waste and water, and a company dealing with separate collection of plastics.
