Venice International University continues to focus on Globalization and its social, economic and environmental implications with a lecture open to the public. Wednesday, 6 May 2009, 5pm
with discussant: David Northrup is Professor in History and African and African Diaspora Studies, at Boston College and teaches "The Worlds of Marco Polo: towards a History of Globalization" in the Spring 2009 VIU Semester Program. He will argue that useful perspectives about the world today can be gained by appreciating how long global convergences have been underway and how European imperial expansion was built on older Asian structures. Wednesday, 13 May, 2009, 5pm From Poverty to Development. Chinese Economic Growth in a Historical Perspective Bozhong Li, Tsinghua University with discussant: Bozhong Li is Chairman of the Department of History of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, specialized in Chinese Economic History and Late Imperial Chinese History. China plays a key role on the new global financial arena. Venice International University invites Professor Li Bozhong to discuss and illustrate the economic development of the Asian superpower in a historical perspective, with reference to recent trends and environmental issues involved.
