The continuous increase in waste production has been placing environment and human health at serious risk; this makes waste management a primary issue on the global level for sustainable development.

The research on waste has the aim not only to give an overview of the characteristics, treatment and disposal of urban, industrial and hospital waste, but also to consider waste as a resource in the recycling process and as a way to recover energy, from the point of view of sustainable development.

The main objectives of the research are:

 Overview on current policies of waste management and integrated waste treatment in Italy and Europe.

 Legislative, economic and applicative aspects.

 Topics of special interest: management of urban, industrial and hazardous waste, waste treatment, resources from waste.
