Joint Workshop on Sino-Italian Comparative Studies on Sustainable Development at TEN Center, 16-17 April, 2007
Water pollution is a hot topic for China which is facing serious and pressing problems in terms of resource management and environmental issues also linked to health risks for the population. On the one hand, Prof. Guanghe Li and Prof. Hongying Hu of Tsinghua University, underlined the rapid worsening and shortening of water quality and quantity, while Prof. Bruno Pavoni and Prof. Giovanni Maria Zuppi of the University of Venice reported on local priorities and monitoring tools necessary for facing the water management issue.
Industrial ecology was treated by Prof. Ignazio Musu and Dr. Ilda Mannino of the TEN Center who presented a research paper on the industrial site of Porto Marghera, in which they suggest an extremely innovative proposal for managing this industrial area as an ecological industrial park.
Waste Management (Prof. Jiang Jianguo, Tsinghua University; Prof. Paolo Pavan, Ca’ Foscari University), ecological risk assessment (Dr. Paola Agostini, VEGA) and contaminated site remediation (Prof. Margherita Turvani and Dr. Stefania Tonin, IUAV) proved to be interesting and stimulating fields for comparing experiences of environmental management in China and Italy, and represent stimulating topics to open a debate and to develop common research for the two universities.
