This book is intended to promote research results of grant-holders participating in the alfa project "Building a Research Community for Local Development". The aim of the project was to develop an international research community specialising in the field of local economic development, industrial districts and small businesses, through the support of innovative technological solutions in the process of knowledge sharing and skill acquisition.Mobility and training programmes intended to allow Ph.D. and young researchers to acquire and share knowledge concerning their own specialisation as well as an integration and updating of their skills both through specific advanced courses, interactive activities, and innovative training tools.
From a general perspective, the project is orientated to facilitate an international professional and cultural integration among researchers by exploiting community-based links, advantages, and appeals, and also improving innovative experiences of cooperation within Latin American and European universities as the basis to develop further integrated academic activities. Following this approach, the present book presents the research activities and training outcomes of 10 Latin-American and 4 European researchers, based on their international study experience. Theoretical analyses as well as case-studies in the field of local economic development are discussed, offering interesting elements of a comparison between the European and Latin American political, economic and social contexts.
