Document Actions

The Associazione Volontari per il Servizio Internazionale (The Association of Volunteers in International Service - AVSI) is an international, nonprofit, non-governmental organisation founded in Italy in 1972.

AVSI holds general consultative status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council in New York and the U.N. Industrial Development Organisation in vienna. The Italian government and the European Union recognise AVSI as an NGO dedicated to international cooperation, and AVSI is registreted as a private volunteer organization with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

AVSI promotes cultural, social and economic development, especially in the most disadvantaged in developing nations and countries in transition. Working in cooperation with local organizations, governments and international agencies, AVSI has programs in 32 countries of Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

One of the intervention areas of AVSI is the "Education, children care and family support", and consequently the "Achive Universal Primary Education", one of the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

From November 27 to December 1, 2006, the residential seminar "Education for all e quality education. L'esperienza AVSI per gli obiettivi del millennio" was held at VIU.
Around 100 participants coming from all 40 countries, where AVSI is operating, met to discuss and exchange experiences about these important themes.
