Laboratorio di Atlantide - Atlantis Workshop
The best of Italy today originates from three different traditions working together: catholic tradition, considering every man as unique and unrepeatable, regardless of his or her social position; social reformist tradition, asking for equal opportunities for quality of life and human dignity for all citizens, regardless of his or her wealth; and liberal tradition, pursuing development and progress by giving credit to the individual’s free enterprise.
These traditions generated the Catholic movement, the trade union movement, and many Italian entrepreneurs. We can also trace these three sources back to the foundations of the Italian Constitution, to the development of democracy, and to the process towards a reformism aiming at virtuous compromises and a common good.
Can there be an instrument through which these cultural positions can speak and have a dialogue?
These cultures risk being suppressed by power, that in order to exist, needs uniformity instead of letting different cultures express themselves. In order to provide an instrument to serve them, the Fondazione per la Sussidiarietà launched in 2005 Atlantide, a quarterly magazine, directed by Giorgio Vittadini. Its aims and objectives are to put different worlds together, letting them to talk to one another. It has to become a common place of dialogue and confrontation, a forge of new and positive ideas both for person and society.
Atlantide is steered by a scientific board formed by distinguished scholars and renowned journalists, who are sincerely moved by the purpose detailed above. They are experts in different areas, and thus can guarantee an adequate interdisciplinary approach.
Each issue is mainly dedicated to a leading theme, seen from different viewpoints, in order to provide a complete outline.
Laboratorio di Atlantide - Atlantis Workshop is a schedule of periodical meetings among experts, decision makers, scholars, about the present and the future of Venice, based on economic, social and cultural development. These seminars aim to propose and compare interpretations, opinions, significant experiences and projects recounted by the magazine Atlantide.
