September 13-19, 2007. Advanced Seminar in the Humanities 2006-2007 “Literature and culture in the Ancient Mediterranean: Greece, Rome and the Near East”
The program, organized by the School for the Advanced Studies in Venice (SSAV) with the support of the Fondazione di Venezia, was conceived as a two year commitment over two successive years (2006 and 2007).
The second session (13 – 19 September 2007) hosted five lectures by invited speakers and the presentation of the research projects that the fellows had identified during the previous session (November 2006) and carried out throughout last year under the supervision of one of the faculty.
A variety of issues concerning the history of the literate cultures had been reviewed, such as, for examples, the textual traditions, the creation and organization of libraries, the classification of genres and the relationship between literature and politics and between literature and other disciplines like music or geography.
Conveners: Professors Ettore Cingano and Lucio Milano, Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia.
