On 11 February 2003, the Foundation of Advanced Studies in Venice (ISAV) was established by Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia, Università Iuav di Venezia, Venice International University (VIU) and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia.
The goal of the Foundation is to promote, develop, coordinate and finance PhD programs and other advanced educational initiatives, within the scope of the aims and objectives established by the Ministerial Decree of 8 May 2001, prot. N. 115/2001. In particular, the Foundation will develop in Venice an advanced education environment and will work towards obtaining accreditation as a Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca di Alta Qualificazione (Advanced Research Doctorate School) in compliance with the aforementioned ministerial decree, art. 12.6.
