VIU offers a campus environment and a scientific community characteristic of the best graduate schools. Thus, in 2003 when the Italian Ministry for Education and Research chose Venice for a new School of Excellence, VIU was a logical choice for the founding members: Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia, Università Iuav di Venezia and Fondazione di Venezia.

The School for Advanced Studies in Venice (SSAV) offers the following PhD Programs:

.  Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development
 .  Economics and Organization
.  Network Economy and Knowledge Management
.  Theories and History of Arts

 Master in Economics and Finance

Since 1998 VIU has offered the Master in Economics and Finance, a graduate program in economic analysis and policy with particular focus on monetary and financial economics. Since the 2003-2004 edition the program achieved recognition from Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia as a Level II Master’s program in the Italian education system.

From the academic year 2006-2007 the master will be coordinated by the Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia and not the VIU.
