5th International Symposium on Sustainability | Climate "How": How to Engage Society and Deploy Decarbonization

February 7-8, 2019

Venice International University and Alcantara are organizing the Symposium "Climate "How": How to Engage Society and Deploy Decarbonization", which aims to explore the question of how to generate engagement in addressing actions at different levels of society.
The Symposium is supported by the World Bank Group’s Connect4Climate global partnership program.

Today, global climate change is one of the most impactful risks with a very high probability of manifestation. Despite the importance of this issue, citizens seem to be distracted by nearer and more fearful urgencies, like social and personal security and unemployment. Moreover, their perceptions of the evolving local and global situation change rapidly, because of the booming availability of information, and the coexistence of very different opinions within the debate.

During an intensive two-day symposium world-class scientists, economists, academics, managers of top corporations, science writers, governmental and non-governmental organizations will come together at Venice International University to discuss how to engage multiple stakeholders in our society on topics relevant to climate change and decarbonization.

VIU’s TEN Program on Sustainability has paid growing attention to raising citizens’ awareness towards topics that stem from scientific research and that have a daily impact on their lives (e.g. health, food safety, climate change) through its activities in Science Communication, which can be an important lever to achieve sustainable development.

This is the fifth edition of our Symposium, following the previous editions organized by Alcantara and Venice International University:

2018 Coping with Change: Global Warming and Decarbonization
2016 Sustainability and Corporate Value (in Tokyo in collaboration with Nikkei, and Waseda University.
2014 Sustainability and the New Automotive Value Chain
2015 The Automotive Ecosystem on the Global road to Sustainability, the Asian Perspective

The Symposium is streamed live on the VIU YouTube Channel.
