Diversity Management in Organization. Cultural Issues for a Postmodern Society: course description

This subject contributes to reflect and learn practical skills about how to deal with diversity within social organizations, regarding specially the features of a post-modern society.

Key-words: Cultural Diversity, Organizations, Post-modernism, Diversity Management, Liquid Society.

Competences
At the end of the course, the student must be competent in:
- conceptualising organizations within a post-modern social framework
- understanding and relating the several Diversity Management approaches
- designing a Diversity management plan to be implemented in a social organization

Contents
1. Post-modern society and culture. Sociological and anthropological issues.
2. Diversity in organizations. New epistemological approaches.
3. The origins of the Diversity Management
4. Diversity Management approach based in quality
5. Diversity Management approach based in strategy
6. Diversity Management approach based in excellence
7. From solid to liquid organizations. Bauman’s contribution to the Theory of Organizations.
8. The development of a Diversity Management plan in a social organization

Methodology
Half of the time of every week will be run in a Seminar structure to discuss about some basic reading that the students must have read previously. The other half the students will elaborate a Diversity Management plan in small work groups. Every group must base their work in a real case study.
