The nature, sources and limits of political authority provide some of the central problems of political philosophy: What are the characteristics of the authority of the state? What are its normative foundations? And how is the legitimate power states constrained by the liberty or autonomy of its citizens? - The seminar is intended to examine these questions in the light of contemporary discussions in political philosophy by thinkers such as John Rawls, Robert Nozick, Friedrich Hayek, Joseph Raz and Ronald Dworkin.
