Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau (BMEPB) is directly under Beijing Municipality and it is in charge of the municipal environment protection in Beijing.

The main functions of Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau are:
to formulate regional regulation draft; to formulate the Beijing environmental protection plan;
to monitor the implementation of the national or municipal plan for pollution control and ecological conservation in key regions and river basins;
to supervise and administer the pollution control of air, water, soil, noise, solid wastes, toxic chemicals, vehicles etc.;
to be responsible for the management of nuclear policy.

BMEPB is an important partner for the Sino-Italian Cooperation Program for Environmental Protection. During this collaboration many courses have been organised and many issues have been treated: vehicle pollution control, environmental monitoring, solid waste management, urban eco-system conservation, protection of aqueous environment, personnel training and environmental education.
