May 19-20, 2008. Executive Session on Biofuels and Sustainable Development

Document Actions
Venice International University will host the “Executive Session on Biofuels and Sustainable Development” that will be held on San Servolo Island, Venice, Italy on May 19 and 20.

The session will be convened by the Sustainability Science Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, in cooperation with the Global Bioenergy Partnership and with the support of the Italian Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea.

The San Servolo session will bring leaders from developing countries and other concerned constituencies together for focused discussions on how the future development of biofuels could be guided to promote sustainable development in both producing and consuming.

A select group of scholars and practitioners from Latin America, Africa, Europe and the United States has been invited in order to create a small discussion group to tackle issues that are at the center of the energy, economic development and trade debate.

After the opening remarks by Mr. Corrado Clini, chairman of the Global Bioenergy Partnership and director general of IMELS, and Mr. Bill Clark, co-director of the Sustainability Science Program, the two days will be divided into four sections, each focused on a policy problem of significance and high political sensitivity related to biofuels, sustainable development and trade. Costs and benefits will be discussed in economic, social and environmental terms.
