Technologies for Culture and Tourism
The goal of this research area is to investigate how new technologies, such as mobile technologies and high-tech theaters, can be used to provide better tourist experiences in terms of physical (tourism path, tourism information) as well as semantic access to cities and museums.
Several new technologies have been applied to niche tourism markets with varying levels of success, but general tourism customers lack options in easily accessible and understandable cultural offerings.
The use of technologies combined with storytelling can also be an opportunity for managing overcrowded cities, encouraging visitors to spend more time in visitor centers or multimedia rooms where the technologies are provided, and reducing the time they spend in the overcrowded cultural attractions.
