2005. Subsidiarity, Organization and Federal Reform
The first edition of the International School of Subsidiarity was held at VIU October 22-24, 2005.
During the first Edition the speakers discussed with the participants the effects on the role of the State arising from the application of the subsidiarity principle in the political domain.
William Niskanen, chairman of the Cato Institute and former acting chairman of President Reagan's Council of Economic Advisers, gave a lecture based on his book: Autocratic, Democratic and Optimal Government.
The lesson of Tim Besley, professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and director of STICERD, dealt with the theme Information, Political Competition and Government Accountability (transcription).
The subject of Bruno Frey's lesson, professor of Economics at the University of Zurich, was The role of the state: Happiness in Economics.
Luca Antonini, professor of Constitutional Law at Università degli Studi di Padova, spoke about Fiscal Subsidiarity - The frontier of the Democracy.
