ilog - Industrial Logistics (2005-2006)

Document Actions

This project is cofinanced for the 50% by the European Commission through the Interreg IIIB CADSES funds and for the other 50 % from the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation.

The lead partner of the Project is the Veneto Region.

Venice International University has won a call for tender of the Veneto Region to carry on some tasks of the project. The VIU role in the I-log project is the management of the research tasks of the project regarding the implementation of three logistic pilot projects in collaboration with three industrial districts of the North East of Italy, namely, Montebelluna: wood and furniture district, Treviso textile district, Verona marble district.

  The project aims at providing local SMEs systems with innovative tools to sustain their competitiveness and the reducing traffic congestions. In particular I-Log is based on the following fundamental goals:

Definition and implementation of a set of logistic services with reference to the existing infrastructures -Regional Logistic Service Pattern – in order rationalise logistics and transportation within local productive systems and to integrate ICT solutions in transport and logistic services;

Fine tuning and testing the proposed solutions on the participating local SMEs systems pinpointing organisation and management models for transport services and local platforms;

Promoting and diffusing logistic culture in local SMEs systems creating relation and information networks;

Exchanging best practices and experiences, diffusing the awareness of the logistic leverage importance for gaining SMEs’ long term competitiveness;

Improving industrial relations among the participating CADSES countries; Becoming a “network of competence” which can provide SMEs advice and support on innovative logistic services implementation and development; as regards to this objective, it will be examined to establish a “virtual logistic observatory” for methods, approaches and methodology for organisation and management of local transport and logistic services.

The project aims is to define a set of instruments that SMEs will use to rationalize the logistic and transport systems of each local productive system participating to the project. This set of instruments, taken from a common analysis methodology, will, in first place, consider and optimise the existing infrastructures and assets in terms of both logistics and transport resources.
Such services will then be customised to the cluster characteristics assessed during the analysis phase, and tested with pilot projects in each local productive system.
Moreover, the I-Log project represents an important mean to fulfil the need for the development of a “logistic culture”. This will be done through seminaries, workshop and particularly through the realization of a network between local the productive systems. The aim is to facilitate the exchange of best practices and the development of industrial relations.

The project will end on June 2006.
